Get to Know QDS Today

Over the course of four decades, QDS has purposefully grown to more than 100 employees serving 350+ customers from communities across more than a dozen states. What has remained consistent through the years is our commitment to our customer-centered, faith-based values. 

We remain proud of our accomplishments, growth, and legacy. However, what we are most proud of is how we bring light, trust, and empowerment to an otherwise dark industry. We accomplish this through our genuine care for our customers, as well as the communities they serve.

Sean Farrell

Chief Executive Officer

A Charlotte, North Carolina native, Sean graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2003. After four years as a baseball player for the Tar Heels, Sean remains the career RBI record holder at UNC, which led to him being drafted by the Oakland A’s. Following an injury that required surgery, Sean joined his father at QDS in 2003 by working in sales.

In 2012, Sean was named CEO and has since led the company through a dynamic growth curve. This included expanding QDS’ footprint from 3 states to a regional powerhouse operating in 13 states, with more than 110 employees.

As a leader, Sean is passionate about fostering a values-driven culture, being the best educator in the space, and delivering innovative, intentional solutions for clients that go above and beyond the status quo.

Kevin Donovan

Chief Operating Officer

Kevin Donovan joined the QDS Executive Team in 2022, with more than 30 years experience in sales, marketing, and operations, in both privately-held and Fortune 500 companies, such as Warner Lambert/Pfizer.

Throughout his career as an executive vice president, COO, CEO, and president, Kevin has led many corporate initiatives with creative vision and entrepreneurial spirit. Additionally, his time in the private equity space demonstrated his strengths in leading companies to obtain strong financial value.

Kevin’s track record for increasing revenue, profitability, and market share by implementing dynamic “go-to-market strategies” has delivered double-digit growth in the companies he served as an executive.

Kevin Karrels

Chief Revenue Officer

An alum of Auburn University, Kevin serves as the Chief Revenue Officer for QDS. In his role, Kevin manages all facets of sales, sales support, product, consulting, coaching, and marketing while ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction.

Leveraging 26 years of banking and sales management knowledge, Kevin creates strategies that drive business growth through effective partnerships, promoting product innovation, and managing performance metrics that link strategy to execution.

Kevin has been involved in all aspects of banking, to include regulatory, compliance, strategy, sales, marketing, and innovation. As a result, he has transformed the consumer landscape with convenient technologies including ATM, ITM, TCR, mobile and online banking solutions.

QDS was founded in 1983 by Joe Farrell

A graduate of Florida State University, with experience at Xerox and Brandt, Inc. — in Charlotte, North Carolina, where it is still headquartered today. Joe had a simple, singular vision for QDS. He wanted to build a company that would be known in the market for how it treated its customers and employees, as well as how it served the local community.

Though now retired from QDS, Joe continues his lifelong commitment to serving others through his leadership of Lionheart Charities, the 501(c)(3) organization through which QDS serves the needs of its dedicated communities.

Joe’s son, Sean Farrell, joined the QDS family in 2003

An alum of University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, Sean began his career as a professional baseball player for the Oakland A’s. Following a career-ending shoulder injury, Sean joined the team as a sales rep. Soon after, he began to launch QDS into diverse systems of products, including cash automation and branch ATMs.

For more than 20 years, in service of our customers at QDS, Sean has shaped QDS into a regional leader, known for its quality and integrity, in the cash automation, ATM, and ITM market. Sean was officially named CEO of QDS in 2012.

Lionheart Charities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization started by QDS. Its mission is to focus on serving those in need in our local communities, including:
